HARRISON, N.J. — Chris Armas has seen it throughout preseason so he had an idea of what to expect from a New York Red Bulls team that opened the 2020 season Sunday as one of the youngest in Major League Soccer.
In many ways, the regular season opener against FC Cincinnati was a chance for this new-look Red Bulls team to calm a skeptical fanbase still smarting from seeing stars like Luis Robles and Bradley Wright-Phillips jettisoned in the offseason.
So it wasn’t a surprise for the club’s head coach that players making their MLS debuts and others with larger roles this season stepped up in a big way to lead the Red Bulls to a 3-2 win over FC Cincinnati at Red Bull Arena.
