CORAL GABLES — Bubba Bolden, the Miami Hurricanes safety who’s entering his third year with the program after transferring from USC, acknowledged there were times when the defense wasn’t focused like it should’ve been.
So when Miami coach Manny Diaz announced in February that he would also serve as the team’s defensive coordinator after Blake Baker left the program to become LSU’s linebackers coach, Bolden knew things wouldn’t feel as easygoing.
“It’s a lot more serious,” Bolden said of Diaz being the team’s defensive coordinator, a role he had from 2016-18 before becoming the program’s coach. “Last year, I felt like it was kind of laid-back and relaxed.
