JACKSONVILLE – Caroline Wells cruised to individual victories in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs in Friday’s Class 3A state track and field meet. But the Winter Springs junior said a stirring relay victory she shared with three teammates was the highlight of her day at the University of North Florida.
Wells ran stunning anchor leg, covering two laps in just two minutes and nine seconds, to give the Bears a come-from-behind photo-finish victory in the 4x800 relay.
She was in fifth place and faced at least a 10-second deficit when she took the baton but stayed calm and confident.
