Caroline Wells continues to prove that nothing, not even an obstacle as disruptive as the COVD-19 pandemic, is going to slow down her record-setting pace as a distance runner.
The Winter Springs High School junior ran the fastest girls 3,200-meter race in state history on Saturday at the Lake Mary Invitational. Wells clocked a time of 10 minutes, 10.39 seconds to narrowly surpass a time of 10:10.45 turned in by Tarpon Springs East Lake junior Parker Valby two years ago at the 2019 FHSAA state track and field championships.
Wells was a ninth grade Class 4A state qualifier when she watched Valby, now a freshman runner at UF, set the record in the 3A state final at the University of North Florida.
