Winter Park’s stifling defense stole the show in a 35-14 season-opening football road win over Lake Nona on Friday night.
The Wildcats forced four turnovers in the game, returning two of them for touchdowns. Hudson Gibbs blocked a punt and returned it for a TD to break a 7-7 tie in the second quarter. Parker Clem sealed the game with a pick-six interception in the fourth.
Winter Park senior quarterback Jaden Machules gave Lions’ defenders headaches with both his arm and his legs. He rushed for 86 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground and added 103 yards passing.
