Jacob Pacheco was just happy to be back on the diamond again with his high school baseball teammates.
On Tuesday, the senior righthander capped a nearly perfect night by tossing a no-hitter to open the 2021 season during a 1-0 win vs. Trinity Prep.
“I’d been excited for weeks to get back to pitching and get an opportunity to play again, but I didn’t think anything close to this was going to happen,” Pacheco said by phone a day later.
COVID-19 cut the spring sports season short throughout the state of Florida last March. Windermere Prep, which played only eight games in 2020, underwent a coaching change in the offseason as Adam Taylor took over the program in place of Keith Walsh.
