TOKYO — U.S. women’s volleyball will have another shot at that elusive gold medal after beating Serbia in straight sets to advance to Sunday’s final.
“It’s our whole pursuit,” opposite Andrea Drews said. “We’ve been committed to the four-year — and in this case five-year — process. All eyes on gold. That goal has influenced every decision we’ve made. Every point scored has been a deposit toward that goal.”
The victory offers a redemption of sorts for the American squad, which saw its gold medal hopes crushed five years ago in a stunning loss to Serbia in the semifinals.
