In a boys basketball district renowned for its fearsome talent West Orange and Olympia were both scary good on Wednesday.
The third seed Warriors (18-5) shot a scalding 66% from the field and opened the Class 7A District 3 tournament at Olympia High School with a surprisingly lopsided 77-45 victory against Lake Brantley (14-9).
“We’re a team full of seniors so we just don’t want to go home,” said Warriors standout Michael McAlister, who scored 27 points in a game shortened by the 35-point mercy rule.
Olympia (19-5), the second seed, poured on the points in a 96-54 win against Ocoee.
