A late rally by host Wekiva fell short and the host Mustangs were defeated 24-18 by unbeaten New Port Richey Mitchell in a Class 7A region semifinal football game on Friday night.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 9 in the Sentinel Super 16, would score on a touchdown pass from quarterback Junior Muratovic to receiver Harleeontai Reed near the end of the third quarter and on a pass from Muratovic to running back Chad Davis Jr. with 4:48 left in the game to draw within one score. They got no closer.
Muratovic had three touchdown passes for the game, with the first coming on the opening drive of the third quarter to Asaad Waseem.
