Orlando City held its annual Media Day earlier this week – a fun, festive time when players, coaches and executives all gather together so local writers and broadcasters can ask them such probing questions as, “So, what’s your favorite karaoke song?”
This used to be a day when team founder Phil Rawlins was front and center, holding court, yukking it up and breaking it down with local scribes. Phil was the smiling, happy, back-slapping, beer-drinking face of the franchise, and reporters used to flock to him like pizza in the newsroom on election night.
Phil Rawlins was not at Media Day this year – and it might have been the saddest day in journalism since the advent of anonymous reader comments.
