When Alanys Viera enrolled at Lyman as a highly-touted ninth grader she joined a girls volleyball program that had spent most of two decades as a doormat in the powerhouse Seminole Athletic Conference.
Four years later the Greyhounds (27-1) are ranked No. 1 in the state. That transformation changes the challenges for a team that plays a Class 7A state semifinal on Saturday afternoon at conference rival Lake Brantley (20-6). The best-of-five games match starts at 2 p.m.
“We’re not the underdogs anymore,” Viera said after Lyman won a region title for the first time in program history last week.
