U.S. women’s national team star Alex Morgan criticized the International Olympic Committee for rules barring athletes from bringing their children to Tokyo in a Twitter post Wednesday.
Tokyo organizers originally barred all athletes from bringing their children to the Olympic Games, but eased restrictions this week to allow nursing mothers to bring their infants.
These rules are part of a broader set of pandemic regulations for the Games, which will limit fans in the stands and prevent athletes’ families from traveling to attend.
“Given that the Tokyo 2020 Games will take place during a pandemic, overall we must unfortunately decline to permit athletes’ family members or other companions to accompany them to the Games,” organizers said in a statement on Wednesday.
