HARRISON, N.J. — The scoreboard for the U.S. women’s national team’s 2-0 victory over England to open the 2020 SheBelieves Cup perfectly highlighted two of Vlatko Andonovski’s top performers in his early tenure: the day’s goalscorers, Carli Lloyd and Christen Press.
Though Andonovski said the team’s talented group of forwards embraced the heightened competition of making an 18-player roster for the Olympics opposed to the World Cup’s 23, Lloyd and Press have emerged as early favorites for Tokyo. Unsurprisingly, it is based in appreciation on collaborating with the new head coach.
“I want to continue to soak up all of his knowledge,” Lloyd told members of the media the day before Sunday’s encounter with Spain.
