GAINESVILLE — Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam led the SEC in pass breakups to earn a first team all-conference honors this week from league coaches.
With whom is the looming question as Elam prepares for Wednesday’s Cotton Bowl against high-scoring Oklahoma.
Elam has been a rare bright spot on a defense that has placed UF defensive coordinator Todd Grantham under the microscope and in the crosshairs.
Grantham’s group has struggled at a historic level, allowing an average of 28.6 points — the most by a UF defense since 1946 for an 0-9 team.
Breakdowns, blown assignments, missed opportunities and mistakes at critical times have been a constant in 2020.
