GAINESVILLE — The Florida Gators rode a red-hot closing stretch by sophomore star Ricky Castillo on Wednesday to earn an improbable berth in the upcoming NCAA men’s golf championship.
Castillo was 6-under par on his final 11 holes, including birdies on four of his final six holes, capped by a 75-foot birdie putt on the 485-yard par-4 18th hole. The 20-year-old’s late heroics carried the Gators to a fifth-place finish, earning the final qualifying spot during NCAA regionals.
