His father, Harris Sr., was a legendary figure in South Florida having coached high school football for more than two decades with stops at Booker T. Washington, Miami Northwestern, Miami Central and Miami Senior.
Harris Jr. played football at a young age, but when he joined the track team to get faster on the football field, he found another passion.
“You go out and you run and you see you have some ability in another sport, and it turned into you’re going to go back next year, and next year for me turned into a career,” said Harris, who became a two-time All-American in track and field at the University of Miami.
