This is a message for the next athletics director at UCF who will soon be searching for the next football coach at UCF:
Instead of looking for the next hot, young coach who will come to UCF, hopefully win a bunch of games and then be off to the first big-time Power 5 school that offers him a job (see Scott Frost and Josh Heupel), why not hire an older, more established coach who will be content staying at UCF for the rest of his career?
I’m talking about somebody like Gene Chizik, the former UCF defensive coordinator and Auburn head coach who has two national championships on his résumé and has let it be known he would absolutely love to step away from the TV booth for the one job he’s always coveted:
That’s right, Chizik has told people for years that the UCF coaching job is a “gold mine.
