UCF found itself in a deep hole, giving up 21 points in a row to Boise State, but how Thursday’s game ended proved worth the almost three-hour weather delay in the season-opener.
UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 318 yards and four touchdowns, including a 21-yard strike to Jaylon Robinson with 56 seconds left in the third quarter. It was the Knights’ first lead and they’d never relinquish it in a 36-31 victory at the Bounce House in coach Gus Malzahn’s debut.
The Knights were in sync at the start. They shut down the Broncos’ first possesion and Gabriel led the offense into the red zone.
