UCF officially submitted its application Wednesday to join the Big 12 Conference, a source within the AAC confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel. The move was first reported by UCFSports.com.
The league’s presidents are set to meet Friday to approve admission to the conference, according to Sports Illustrated. Previously, The Athletic reported that the league had been holding “serious discussions” about adding UCF, Houston, Cincinnati and BYU.
Of the four schools, Houston and Cincinnati had already applied to join the Big 12, with UCF becoming the latest to follow suit. Houston’s board of regents voted unanimously to proceed with the move to the Big 12 conference on Tuesday, the Houston Chronicle reported.
