Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Carlos Pena was known for his slugging prowess and Gold Glove defense during much of his 14-year Major League Baseball career — and for regularly hitting the catwalk at Tropicana Field.
Pena became the first player to hit a ball into the “A” ring, the highest catwalk at Tropicana Field, when the Rays first baseman launched a 190-foot pop fly during the eighth inning against the Minnesota Twins.
The pop-up was caught off the rebound by relief pitcher Jose Mijares, who rolled onto his stomach to maintain the catch after keenly tracking the elusive fly ball.
