Today in Central Florida sports history: FSU baseball surprises with deep NCAA run

The Florida State baseball team has a rich NCAA Tournament history, but the Seminoles haven’t relied solely on their home field to launch deep postseason runs.

The Seminoles beat Central Connecticut State 11-3 on June 4, Oregon 6-4 on June 5 and Oregon 5-3 on June 6 to clinch the series victory.

FSU returned home to win two of three over Vanderbilt in the Tallahassee Super Regional and reached the College World Series for the 20th time in school history.

What made the 2010 run memorable was the Seminoles weren’t playing well to close the regular season, but they rallied in the ACC Tournament and used the momentum of their surprise league championship to string together NCAA Tournament wins.
