Today in Central Florida sports history: Apopka alum Zack Greinke makes MLB history with his bat

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher and Apopka native Zack Greinke recorded a season hit cycle after delivering the first triple of his Major League Baseball career on this day in 2019.

Greinke led off the fifth inning by driving a ball off the Clemente Wall in right field at PNC Park against Pirates starter Jameson Taillon and sliding head-first into third just ahead of the relay throw. Greinke scored on a triple by Jarrod Dyson.

Greinke, who also played shortstop at Apopka High School, became the only pitcher since 1913 with five extra-base hits in March/April, according to MLB.
