Portland Timbers supporters will have another Chara to cheer for in 2020.
The club announced Thursday that it had acquired winger Yimmi Chara, the 28-year-old brother of current Timbers’ midfielder Diego. The Colombian international was acquired through a transfer with Brazilian Serie A side Clube Atlético Mineiro. Chara will be a Designated Player for Portland and occupy an international roster slot.
“Yimmi is a player we have followed closely for nearly 10 years and having the resources made available to bring him to Portland is tremendous for everyone in the club,” Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson said in a statement.
