The theme of Wednesday night’s spring jamboree between Apopka, Dr. Phillips and host Winter Park at Showalter FIeld was not necessarily about those players on the field.
Apopka swept both opponents, defeating Dr. Phillips in two varsity quarters 21-8 and shutting out Winter Park 14-0 in one varsity quarter. The homestanding Wildcats blanked Dr. Phillips in the other varsity quarter 12-0, as Dr. Phillips struggled offensively.
Apopka quarterback Andrew McClain and tight end Bryce Harrison, both transfers from Sanford Seminole, were on the sidelines due to state transfer rules.
Dr. Phillips was missing 4-star offensive tackle Payton Kirkland, who is ranked as the No.
