Tampa Bay Bucs owners look like buffoons for trying to take over European soccer | Commentary

The Glazer family, who owns the Bucs and also owns arguably the most famous soccer team on the planet — England’s storied Manchester United — were the driving influences behind a dozen or so of Europe’s biggest, richest clubs recently breaking off from the traditional UEFA Champions League and forming their own European Super League.

“By bringing together the world’s greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid,” Joel Glazer, co-owner of both Manchester United and the Buccaneers and vice chairman of the proposed Super League, said in a statement Sunday.
