Seminole vs. Osceola state football final is for pride

Sanford Seminole and Kissimmee Osceola, high schools separated by less than 50 miles and rich in history as bedrocks of their communities, meet in Tallahassee this weekend to decide the FHSAA Class 8A football state championship.

Undefeated Seminole (11-0) plays the Kowboys (9-2) in the Florida High School Athletic Association large-classification final Saturday at 1 p.m. at Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium. It will be the first football championship game played between two Orlando area programs since state playoffs began in 1963.

Edgewater (7-2) plays Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (7-1) for the Class 7A state title in a rematch set for 7 p.
