Sanford Seminole fought off a second-half comeback by St. Johns Bartram Trail in route to a 42-28 home win Friday night in the FHSAA Class 8A, Region 1 high school football final.
The undefeated ‘Noles led 35-7 at halftime in what looked to be a blowout victory, but Bartram Trail (10-2) wouldn’t go down without a fight. The Bears scored 21 unanswered points over the course of the third and fourth quarters as running back AJ Jones scooted into the end zone three times.
“We relaxed a little bit, started missing some tackles and kept them alive,” Seminole coach Eric Lodge said.
