Claire — a lanky, spunky, scruffy-coated Scottish Deerhound who “knows she’s special” — was named Best In Show at the National Dog Show Thursday.
The purebred pooch beat out some 600 competitors, whose numbers were cut 70% from last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Due to safety protocols, the event was held without fans, vendors, sponsors or media, and nurses took the temperatures of all human participants.
“I think my Claire’s day is every day, to be quite honest,” handler Angie Lloyd told NBC Sports, which broadcast the competition. “She is as wonderful on the inside as she is on the outside.
