SAN JOSE, Calif. — After making great strides under new head coach Matias Almeyda in 2019, the San Jose Earthquakes, with their roster kept nearly intact, hope to take it a step further and qualify for the playoffs in 2020.
The Quakes had an up-and-down season, losing four games to start 2019 before nearly reaching the heights of the Western Conference over the summer. San Jose finished the season on a six-game losing streak, with a heart-breaking loss to Portland on Decision Day eliminating the Earthquakes from the postseason, but it only served to set in motion a rigorous plan to position the team for improvement in year two with Almeyda in charge.
