Days of drama surrounding a red card given to Orlando City’s Rafael Ramos seemed to come to an end when Major League Soccer’s independent panel reviewed the call and rescinded the card on Wednesday.
The incident included fan outrage over the call, an appeal from the club, social media harassment of the referee who awarded the card in the Lions’ game against Chicago on Sunday and a decision from the league in favor of the Lions.
But the saga is not yet over.
The Professional Soccer Referees Association, a labor organization and advocacy group for referees in North America, published an open letter Friday expressing concern over the actions of the league’s independent panel and the Professional Referees Organization, which employs MLS officials.
