The Panthers are moving a statue of disgraced ex-owner Jerry Richardson, according to Charlotte reporter Joe Bruno. The absurd statue, which was erected in just 2016, features Richardson holding a football while surrounded by two panthers.
After the killing of George Floyd and subsequent anti-police protests, Americans have been yanking down and decapitating statues of racists across the country. The Panthers are moving the statue to “an undisclosed location because of public safety concerns,” according to local reporter DaShawn Brown.
Richardson sold the Panthers in 2018 after Sports Illustrated reported that he sexually harassed at least four women in the office and used an unspecified racial slur against at least one black scout.
