Will Oviedo native Tommy Redding start again Friday? Yes.
More than that, Redding has a chance to remain a starter at centerback even when injured David Mateos returns. Mateos hurt his hamstring and is expected to be out two to six weeks.
“I thought [Redding] had an excellent first game,” Heath said. “Tommy is a young guy who has got an awful lot of potential. He needs to fight tooth and nail to keep that positions. Ya know, if in two to three weeks he’s still on the team playing well, he’ll keep his spot.”
Redding played the entirety of Sunday’s opener against Real Salt Lake, giving him more minutes than he tallied all of last season.
