Oviedo handles crosstown rival Hagerty in 8A playoff game

Oviedo led by just one score at halftime but scored early in the third quarter and never looked back in route to a 41-13 win over crosstown rival Hagerty in a Class 8A region quarterfinal high school football game on Friday.

Hagerty fumbled to open the third quarter. On the next play Oviedo quarterback Luke Rucker threw to Sebastian Vargas, who turned and broke free for 76-yard touchdown that gave the Lions a 27-13 lead.

“They (Hagerty) played run defense, the linebackers committed to the run. I caught the ball on a slant and went to the house,” Vargas said.
