Kissimmee Osceola senior kicker Spencer Richards was once hesitant about trading soccer cleats for a roster spot on one of the top football programs in the area.
But after some prodding from Kowboys head coach Doug Nichols and encouragement from his mom Heidi, who works at the school and has spent nights shagging balls for her son, Richards has blossomed into one of the area’s most skilled special-teams weapons.
“My mom would drop subtle hints about trying football when I was a freshman, but I was a little scared after playing soccer my whole life,” said Richards.
