Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod returned to Pride training this week with a gold medal in tow — and to a surprise from her teammates.
The keeper entered her first meeting since winning Olympic gold with the Canadian national team to an immediate outpouring from Pride teammates. Ashlyn Harris danced in a shimmering gold bodysuit while Marta and Ali Riley, decked out in her jersey, doused their teammate in confetti.
“I’ve just been bawling for a week,” McLeod said. “I think it just hit me, you know — 20 years I’ve been playing for Canada, and my dream when I was five years old was to go to the Olympics and win a gold, and here we are 33 years later.
