A league-wide initiative led by the Orlando Pride and the Chicago Red Stars raised $45,146 to benefit Libby's Legacy, an Orlando-based nonprofit that provides assistance to breast cancer patients.
The effort began in September following the breast cancer diagnosis of Pride defender and longtime NWSL player Toni Pressley. The defender was diagnosed with breast cancer in July and underwent a double mastectomy a month later. She returned to the pitch for the team's final match of the season, three months after receiving her initial diagnosis.
Pressley story was met with a wave of support from fans, players and coaches throughout the league that inspired the fundraising effort.
