The Orlando Pride exercised the option of six players and extended new contract offers to eight more, with a goal of preserving 23 of the team’s 26 contracted players from the 2020 season.
The Pride exercised the one-year option for Brazilian star Marta, along with first-round draft pick Taylor Kornieck and longtime defender Carson Pickett. The team also exercised options for new additions Erin McLeod, Jade Moore and Ali Riley, who were signed this year and have yet to play for the Pride.
Most NWSL contracts are structured as a one-year contract with a one-year option. A player’s contract can be extended for one additional season after the conclusion of their guaranteed season with a club.
