The Orlando Pride continued a stuttering streak of winless matches with a 2-1 loss to the Thorns in Portland on Sunday night, the team’s third defeat in the last four games.
Although captain Ashlyn Harris stopped her fifth penalty kick of the season, it wasn’t enough to fend off a relentless Portland attack. Diminished by injuries and Olympic absences, the Pride struggled to spark an offensive rhythm.
The loss dropped the Pride (4-3-4, 16) to the fifth spot in the league table with a game still in hand, a rapid tumble from the top-ranked spot the team held only a month ago.
