Orlando Pride captain Ashlyn Harris led her team to speak out against legislation targeting trans children in Florida ahead of the team’s match against Gotham on Sunday.
The Pride wore rainbow tie-dye shirts bearing the message “Protect Trans Children” over their jerseys during the national anthem. The statement came three weeks after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill preventing trans girls from participating in girls youth sports on the first day of Pride month.
“This sport has given me so much,” Harris said. “It’s given me a place to call home. Truthfully, it saved my life.
