The Orlando area’s all-time winningest high school football coach sensed the time had come to make a change.
On Wednesday, Bill Gierke resigned as head coach at Orangewood Christian after leading the program to a 52-51 record over the past 10 seasons. Gierke, who turned 67 last week, said he plans to continue coaching elsewhere should the right opportunity present itself.
“As long as I’m healthy and I can continue to do it, I’m going to continue to do it. Coaching is something I love to do,” said Gierke. “At my age I need to make sure whatever happens from here is a solid foundation and something I can pursue.
