Orlando City captain Nani’s red card has been rescinded and he has been cleared to play the regular-season finale against Nashville SC Sunday, the MLS disciplinary committee announced Saturday.
The call occurred in the 49th minute, when Nani’s studs connected with the leg of the Crew’s Artur during a tackle. After the match, the PRO referee team specified the foul was called for “Serious Foul Play for a straight leg tackle, contact with studs above the ankle.”
The referee initially issued a yellow card, but after review upgraded the foul to a red card because he “originally thought that the contact was low on the foot and reckless” rather than above the ankle.
