Orlando City will face off with Inter Miami tonight, kicking off the MLS is Back Tournament 118 days after play was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Players and coaches went into quarantine, doing workouts at home and meeting via videoconference while the country learned more about how to deal with the highly contagious virus.
MLS hired a fleet of infectious disease experts and collaborated with medical officials on every team. The group discussed how to potentially resume play. League sources told the Orlando Sentinel that Orlando City CEO Alex Leitão played an integral role in the process, suggesting MLS didn’t need to play in regional hubs and instead could house all teams and resume play ESPN Wide World of Sports on Disney World property in Orlando.
