Orlando City SC traded $100,000 midfielder José Cifuentes to LAFC in exchange for in General Allocation Money (GAM) from Los Angeles FC.
Cifuentes helped to lead the Ecuadorian U-20 team to a first-place finish at the 2019 South American U-20 championship and a third-place finish at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He made his senior debut for the national team in September 2019.
“We identified José prior to the 2019 U-20 Men’s World Cup and quickly put him on our discovery list,” Orlando City executive vice president of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi said. “We’ve now built a roster where we already have depth and a high-level of quality in this position, so to make a trade for $100,000 in GAM gives us the ability to spend some money on additional areas of the field and is really a credit to the talent of our scouting team.
