With less than eight hours left in the summer transfer window, Orlando City traded midfielder Darwin Cerén to the San Jose Earthquakes.
In exchange, the club has acquired Argentinian attacking midfielder Matías Pérez García and an international slot through the end of the year. The Lions also traded salary budget space to San Jose to sign a Season Ending Injury Replacement.
Cerén was part of a defensive midfield tandem, also featuring Cristian Higuita, that garnered much acclaim in MLS the last two seasons.
The 26-year-old wore the captain’s armband on occasion for Orlando City and captains El Salvador’s national team.
