When Orlando City took the field against Toronto on Saturday, the players were focused on a larger purpose — properly honoring teammate Rodrigo Schlegel.
The defender watched the game from his home in Argentina, where he spent most of the last month after his father, Adrian, contracted COVID-19. He died last week.
The loss rocked the team, but midfielder Júnior Urso said his teammates were determined to use it as fuel on the field.
“This week has been hard for us,” said Urso, whose goal in the 84th minute delivered a 3-2 victory for the surging Lions.
