The MLS disciplinary committee denied Orlando City’s appeal to overturn goalkeeper Pedro Gallese’s second yellow card incurred during Saturday’s match against NYCFC, a source told the Orlando Sentinel.
Gallese earned the first yellow card against New York City FC Saturday for time wasting, then was hit with a second card during the penalty kick shootout for encroachment. The violation is ruled when a keeper comes off his line before the penalty taker strikes the ball. Current FIFA rules call for a warning before a card is issued, but MLS is still operating under last year’s FIFA rules that trigger an automatic yellow card when encroachment is observed.
