Coach Oscar Pareja says no one on the Orlando City roster worked harder during the season shutdown than the team’s three goalkeepers.
The period forced goalkeeper coach César Baena to get creative, because keepers Pedro Gallese, Brian Rowe and Mason Stajduhar were at a disadvantage from the rest of the team.
Even with social distancing restrictions, field players can work on their foot skills and shooting without a partner. For goalkeepers, however, it’s impossible to fully train without another person involved. Most of a goalkeeper training session is spent defending shots from a coach or teammate.
When the league restricted players from interacting at all during training, Baena created workouts to maintain their physical fitness, emphasizing strength and conditioning.
