Orlando City gives up late goal, falls 2-1 to Fort Lauderdale

Nothing less than a scrappy, physical match was expected between Florida teams trying to prove themselves

Orlando City had aspirations of winning a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title this year after getting knocked out in the quarterfinals last year. The Fort Lauderdale Strikers wanted to continue making history and take down the state’s only MLS team on the way.

After 90 minutes, 30 minutes of extra time and a scuffle that left both teams with 10 men, the only North American Soccer League team left in the competition shocked Orlando City to win 2-1 in a Round of 16 match Wednesday night at Camping World Stadium.
