Mayor Buddy Dyer stood in a line with about a dozen children and on the count of three joined them in kicking soccer balls into a tiny net.
They all cheered as the balls broke through a banner positioned across the net that read, "Rock Lake Neighborhood Center."
It was a unique ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the new school year and Orlando City Foundation's "Soccer for Success" program on a new mini pitch, the city's fifth, at the community center on North Tampa Avenue less than a mile from Camping World Stadium.
Dyer and the children were joined by Orlando City co-founder and foundation president Kay Rawlins and District 5 commissioner Regina Hill.
