Three months ago, longtime Orlando City season ticket holder John Lightfoot was in the ICU, just doing his best to breathe.

During the third month of the coronavirus pandemic, Lightfoot had contracted COVID-19, which in turn exacerbated a congenital heart defect. After five days in the emergency room, Lightfoot returned home with a new diagnosis — a left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy (LVNC).

Now, Lightfoot wears an external defibrillator around the clock. But that didn’t impact his decision-making when the Lions announced a limited number of fans could buy tickets to attend their first match at Exploria Stadium since the pandemic shut down league play.
